Mr. Jacoby is an award-winning, well known small business expert based in Baltimore, Maryland. He has had a remarkable career that began in economic research, continued in corporate planning and merger and acquisition responsibilities with the past 20+ years spent building a successful business growth consulting practice.
In 1976, he joined the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis where he spent 4 years conducting economic research on the U.S. economy.
In 1981, he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and was hired to do business unit financial planning and analysis at Target Corporation headquarters followed by running corporate planning and merger and acquisition activities at Carlson Companies and Tonka Toys. Mr. Jacoby then served as VP Finance and Administration for The Aveda Corporation where he raised capital, expanded national distribution and added key senior management all of which resulted in increasing the business from $16M to $34M in less than 2 years. This was a pivotal experience for Mr. Jacoby in cementing his understanding of what is required to drive growth.
Since 1986, Mr. Jacoby has advised several hundred small business owners, raised capital, sourced and negotiated acquisitions and divestitures, recommended significant marketing and sales strategy changes as well as changes to management teams. He has been honored as the recipient of Smart CEO’s 2006 Top Advisor Award and the Greater Baltimore Technology Council’s 2005 Connector of the Year Award. In 1998 he received a national marketing award from the Beauty and Barber Supply Institute for work performed for Jessup Maryland’s B&B Distributors.
